In 2021, the MD General Assembly passed Anton’s Law, making a significant step towards greater transparency and accountability for law enforcement. However, implementation has proved largely ineffective. Requestors still face significant hurdles in their pursuits, and recently, a lawsuit was filed by the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) to block the release of an internal investigation involving a particular officer. This panel discusses where we are, what it means for public records, and where advocates and lawmakers should go from here to defend Anton’s Law.
