VIDEO: MDOG Transparency Summit – Participatory Budget & Legislative Session

In 2021, the MD General Assembly passed Anton’s Law, making a significant step towards greater transparency and accountability for law enforcement. However, implementation has proved largely ineffective. Requestors still face significant hurdles in their pursuits, and recently, a lawsuit was filed by the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) to block the release of an internal investigation involving a particular officer. This panel discusses where we are, what it means for public records, and where advocates and lawmakers should go from here to defend Anton’s Law.

Moderator: Yanet Amanuel, Public Policy Director, ACLU – MD

Panelists:

  • Senator Jill P. Carter, Maryland State Senator representing District 41
  • Taya Graham, Host and Producer, The Real News Network
  • Stephen Janis, Host and Producer, The Real News Network
  • Dayvon Love, Director of Public Policy, Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle
